Barsboldia TLC
The mighty Barsboldia stomps into battle - now armed with a brand new Area of Effect damage system that changes the way it fights!
Updated AoE System
With this rework, AoE attacks now scale their damage based on how close enemies are to the center of the initial impact. Players standing in the heart of the attack will take the brunt of the blow, while those near the edges will receive less damage. Plus a brand-new visual indicator shows the full AoE range based on terrain, so no more guessing where the danger zone is!
The update also introduces several new ways in which AoE damage is applied. Locational damage has been added, meaning hits to the head will do more damage while tail hits are far less punishing, and AoE attacks can now clip flyers and aquatics nearby, albeit at a reduced range. Barsboldia's AoE attacks can now also hit dinosaurs latched onto it, allowing it and other dinosaurs with AoE attacks to more reliably deal with pouncers. This gives massive creatures like Bars even more battlefield presence.
Barsboldia AoE Attacks
Several of Barsboldia's core abilities have been upgraded to use this new AoE system as well:
'Tail Slam' now deals AoE damage around the point of impact, punishing any dinosaurs who dare to close in, and 'Tail Smash' is a new charge-up attack that increases in both damage and range the longer it's held, making it ideal for setting up devastating counters. And the 'Dazing Impacts' ability can be equipped to apply the Dazed status effect to all targets hit by its tail slams, or alternately equip 'Shockwave' to widen the AoE attack radius and catch even more enemies in the blast!
These upgrades are intended to give Barsboldia more tools to disrupt group attacks, control spaces, and keep smaller opponents on their toes.
Heavy Hitting Attacks
But prefer precision over splash damage? Barsboldia's updated melee arsenal has that covered:
'Sweep' is a powerful tail attack that deals high direct damage without knockback, perfect for consistent damage output, while 'Kick' helps Barsboldia defend its vulnerable front by delivering medium damage and solid knockback, sending any attackers flying if they try to flank it.
New Hide Abilities
Barsboldia also comes with two unique Hide abilities that dramatically shape its playstyle:
'Thick Skin' grants resistance to knockback and increases all attack damage while in Bipedal Stance, making it a frontline powerhouse, while 'Die Hard' kicks in when Barsboldia is low on health, massively boosting stamina regeneration and reducing ability cooldowns to help it turn the tide in a losing fight.
Deafen Your Attackers
And that's not all- Barsboldia now brings a new status effect to the battlefield!
'Deafening Bellow' is a new Vocal call that applies the 'Deafened' status effect to nearby enemies, preventing them from being able to hear, and therefore making them unable to receive most Vocal Ability buffs. This includes popular abilities like Metriacanthosaurus's healing roars, letting Barsboldia take control of the fight and shut down support strategies.
We can't wait to see what you do with these updates to this massive herbivore! Be sure to let us know your feedback!
Other Major New Features
This new full game patch contains loads of new systems and features as well, and we wanted to highlight some of the most interesting elements here.
New Ambient Audio
This patch brings a brand new audio system to Path of Titans, creating a significantly more immersive environment. Areas on the map are now split up based on their biome type, and play unique soundscapes and sound cues depending on the area you are in.
There are currently a number of biomes set up on both Gondwa and Panjura, including Forests, Pine Forest, Plains, Deserts, Beaches, and Open Ocean. Each one of these feature unique sounds, such as birds chirping, wind gusts, trees creaking, small creatures chattering, insects buzzing, and foliage rustling. These sounds will spatially surround you, playing from different directions, above and below you. These soundscapes also change as the sun sets, featuring completely different sounds that play during the night. Crickets, hooting birds, and frogsong will fill your dinosaur's ears, and really set the mood.
Windstorms
Wind and rain is now completely seperated from each other. Previously, if it was a clear sky the wind was always gentle, and if it was stormy weather it was always very windy at the same time. The wind was always predetermined based on the weather type, making the environment feel a bit static and predictable.
With this new update, wind is now independent of weather. This means it's now possible to experience a thunderstorm with no winds at all, or a blustery day with a clear sky. The new wind system will also play new particle effects, with branches and leaves blowing in the breeze, and wind sound effects ramping up with the intensity of the wind.
Other New Things
- Observant Critters - Critters will now look up at dinosaurs passing nearby, and glance back at their attackers as they flee, rotating their heads to face them.
- Ground Crawlers - You may now notice small creatures darting around on the ground. Small mammals, lizards, spiders, and insects will scater as you near them, adding an extra layer of immersion.
- Impact Crater Update - Impact Crater on the Gondwa map has seen a meteor strike! The water has evaporated, and it now features a charred meteorite in the middle of the crater. The surrounding Grand Plains area has also seen some new tree growth, making the area much more sheltered.
We hope you enjoy this game update, and we are definitely looking forward to hearing your feedback on the new Barsbolida TLC, the updated audio system, and the changes to Gondwa. Thank you for your support and we will see you next time!
