Welcome to Riparia!

Riparia is our new coastal map featuring vast waterways that flood the landscape with a big emphasis on interactions between aquatic, land, and air dinosaurs. At 5 by 5 kilometres, it’s smaller than Gondwa, but we’ve leaned into more verticality by creating towering landscapes while also packing it with dense features, like canyons, rivers, and underground tunnels. There's also new prehistoric foliage to break up the map and create more secluded areas while still providing several ways to traverse between them, including submerged caves, caverns, and natural ramped valleys.

A Detailed New World

Several new landmarks dot the map adding unique features to both the land and the sea. Players will find new mountain faces like the Three Horn Peak, the torrents of Cliff Edge Falls, the old growth of Big Tree Overlook, and the jagged borders of Steep Run.

Riparia has more flyer friendly features to take advantage of their flight, including large platformed areas like the Wind Tunnels and Dry Fang Canyon.

Aquatic players will find more inlets and streams to travel across the map, offering more places to catch curious prey venturing a little too close to the shore.

Land dinosaurs will be able to explore caverns, large plateaus, and can brave the several islands scattered near the sea via safer narrow passages or land bridges.

New Biomes and Foliage

Riparia is also filled with new flora, creating a distinct environment in each area including the giant conifers in Redwood Lake, the gnarled trees of the Twisted Forest, the diverse greens covering the Volcano Islands, and the sparse grasses of the Mudflats.

We hope you enjoy the new map, and there will be more to discover as we develop and refine it further based on your feedback.

Tylosaurus

We are also pleased to announce the release of the Tylosaurus! This aquatic mosasaur brings danger to the many waterways of Riparia and includes several playstyles, making it not only a bully in the water, but a deadly ambush predator out of it. Its tactics are similar to the Sarcosuchus or modern-day orca, capable of beaching itself with a burst of speed out of the shallows to attack unsuspecting creatures on shores and banks.

Crushing Build

Take advantage of Riparia’s dense oceans and rivers to dominate the waters with the Crushing Build. This build takes advantage of Tylosaurus’s size and strength, focusing on deadly crushing attacks as well as Bone Break.

When you have prey in your sights, surge towards them and use Shattering Cry to reduce Fracture heal on nearby creatures and prolong fractures even after a Bone Break is healed. Follow up with Bone Snap, a charged bite attack that inflicts Fracture based on how long it’s held before snapping your jaws closed around them, and Pterygoid Teeth which reduces Bone Snap’s stamina cost and increases Fracture damage.

Alternatively, use Crushing Bite to deal quicker and lighter fracture damage, piling on the Fracture status effect until it leads to a shattering Bone Break…disabling your target’s sprint and leg abilities. Shatterstride allows you to keep pressure on your target by passively boosting movement when near a Fractured dinosaur; increasing acceleration while reducing sprint swim stamina. Crush your prey by slowing them down and wearing them out until they succumb to you and the depths you call home.

Torpedo Build

If speed is more your thing, then the Torpedo Build may be for you! Using the Tylosaurus’s agile swimming and reinforced nose, this build turns it into an underwater battering ram.

Lurk in the depths and get into position once you spot prey swimming above, then use Headbutt after charging and aiming, surging forwards to deal a direct blow to your target from below. With Hard Skull equipped, any Headbutt colliding with other dinos or terrain will apply an AoE, dealing a portion of damage to nearby enemies. It will also increase Stamina Recovery rate letting you quickly recover between charges. Acoustic Debilitation unleashes a harsh underwater roar that inflicts Stun to nearby dinos, slowing them down and disabling their abilities.

If enemies are attacking your broadside, turn and use Sweep, a high damage tail attack, then follow up with Water Dodge to quickly move in any direction and create space between you and your opponent. The barrage of heavy attacks will leave your target battered and unable to recover, ready to sink to the ocean floor.

Clamping Abilities

The many inlets and waterways of Riparia create numerous opportunities to rush unsuspecting prey. Tylosaurus has a few abilities that focus on using the flooded landscapes to conceal itself and stalk its targets for a well-timed ambush attack.

When prey ventures too close to the shore, breach the surface to catch them on land. The passive Beach Comber ability will give you a burst of speed at no stamina cost for a short period to quickly close the distance to your victim. Use that time to Clamp the target, preventing its escape to drag it back into the water. Wide Gape will increase Clamp’s carry capacity for larger dinos and reduce their chance of bucking free. Bite while clamping to deal damage as it struggles before finishing them off in the depths. Ravenous will grant a health recovery boost when eating a dinosaur’s body allowing you to quickly eat and run to your next victim.

No dino will feel safe venturing near the waters or traversing even the narrowest of streams with Tylosaurus prowling the waterways.

We are very excited to present this new mosasaur and to see how you use it to explore the dense waters of Riparia. Whether you choose to play as a waterborne bully using headbutts and bone-breaks or choose to beach yourselves for the tastier land dinosaurs, we hope you enjoy Tylosaurus!

Kaiwhekea and Eurhinosaurus Ability Updates

Character Database Information

Riparia has its own standalone characters, meaning existing characters from Gondwa and Panjura are currently not usable on Riparia. Players will have to grow new characters from a hatchling when playing on Riparia.

We are actively working on improvements to the character system to allow characters to be played across all maps, and are aiming to implement this at a later date. We will let you know as soon as we have more information on this feature.

Map Requirements

Riparia is a massively detailed map, and some devices with low memory may have difficulties running this new map. If your device has low memory, there will be a message indicating such before you load the map. We will be working to improve compatability with all our supported devices as we recieve playtesting and feedback from the community. If you are having issues playing on Riparia, we have ensured that Gondwa and Panjura are still just as accessable as ever, and you can continue to play on those maps. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Thank you, as always, and we’ll be listening for your feedback on Riparia, Tylosaurus, and everything else that's in this update. See you soon!
