A new skin bundle is now available for purchase, the Eternal Skin Pack. This skin pack is being released in correlation with the Stop Killing Games movement, and we wanted to take some time below to explain what and why Alderon Games has decided to sponsor the movement.

What is Stop Killing Games?

Stop Killing Games is a nonprofit, consumer movement with the goal of preserving video games after they are taken offline. Many great games have been rendered unplayable over time due to their multiplayer or game authentication servers shutting down. This has impacted both online and singleplayer games in the past.

Stop Killing Games is advocating for game developers and publishers to have an end-of-life plan for games they sell, allowing gamers to retain the ability to play it long-term, essentially offering a form of preservation. Why are we supporting them?

We believe in players having the freedom to build their own communities and servers. Many of the people on the Alderon Games team have been affected by our favorite multiplayer games being shut down, rendering them unplayable. Often permanently if there isn't a large and devoted community that can manage to create community patches to fix the game functionality.

We have designed Path of Titans from the ground up to support community servers, modding, extensive server options, and more, so that in the far far future Path of Titans will always be playable if something were to happen to Alderon Games.

But, this isn't the industry standard, and many of your favorite online games are at risk of being shut down permanently if servers are no longer being supported. By supporting the Stop Killing Games movement we believe that standards can change for the better.

Alderon Games, and Matt in particular, have been a supporter of the campaign. Matt has contributed both his time and his knowledge as a game developer, and he and Ross previously recorded a video together to help raise awareness of these issues.

Joint Statement from Alderon Games and the Stop Killing Games Team

The Eternal Skin Pack has been created as part of a collaborative effort between Alderon Games and the Stop Killing Games team to support broader international advocacy around game preservation and player rights. This can include costs related to travel, infrastructure, research, advocacy, and the development of more permanent structures to address these issues in a more coordinated and sustainable way, including support for building capacity in other parts of the world where needed.

The pack is planned to be available for a one-month period, and the net proceeds associated with sales during that time are intended to support those wider efforts. Because in-game purchases, virtual currencies, platform fees, taxes, refunds, and other platform-specific factors vary, it is not possible to match each individual purchase to an exact monetary contribution.

This support is intended for the wider global effort and not for the European Citizens’ Initiative, which will remain a separate grassroots effort.

The Eternal Skin Pack may also return in the future. If it does, any related support would be considered at that time and could potentially help fund further advocacy, legal efforts, or future campaigns. Alderons Games will thus be a sponsor of the Stop Killing Games campaign, more precisely the associated NGO.
